Hey there! Our team at Upcycle has out our brains together to come up with some tips on our favourite current trend. Currently, we are loving monochromatic looks so we thought we should give you some color matching tips.
Now, color matching doesn't always mean monochromatic; think complementary colors! Here are 2 reasons to consider color matching when choosing your next outfit.
Colors can evoke moods and emotions, making them a powerful tool when planning an outfit. For example, wearing bold and bright colors can convey confidence and energy, while muted or neutral colors can create a calming and relaxed vibe. Color matching allows you to set the tone for the occasion, making sure that your outfit aligns with the mood you want to create.
When you color match, it opens up more opportunities to mix and match. If you have a wardrobe with matching colors, it becomes easier to create different outfits by simply swapping out different pieces. This allows for versatility and more options when selecting an outfit for any occasion.

MEET THE OWNERS ⚡️
Hi I’m Mackenzie (on the left). I am Founder, curator and creative director. I run all things creative. My favourite part of this business is having a space where individual styles are celebrated!
Hi 👋🏼 I’m Ira (on the right) I am the COO, and other half! My favourite part of this business is creating connections throughout the community!
We are the duo behind Upcycle Collective, with the help of our dedicated staff. And for us, it's about sustainable fashion, accessibility, individualism and community.
Love for clothing is an understatement. From a young age Mackenzie always had an eye for fashion and individual style. It was a natural progression for her to start selling her clothing through an online platform. The opportunity of a brick and mortar presented itself and Mackenzie did not hesitate to take it into her own hands. With the help of her mom, Mackenzie was able to build a consignment system that has been accessible to all while creating a safe space to shop and celebrate individualism. Mackenzie's drive and passion has kept this business growing and her excitement for what is to come has helped push the shop into what after two covid years it has become.
Community and connections have always been a big part of Ira's values. Being given the opportunity to be a part of Upcycle, Ira has found his role in creating an environment for everyone to be able to shop in. Clothing is a part of his self expression and being able to share his love with others has been so exciting. Ira shares his time between Upcycle and teaching. This has kept him excited for personal growth from both of these dynamic environments.
Ira & Mackenzie have found a rhythm between them for work and play. Maintaining a partnership and relationship while being in the first 5 years of business is hard to say the least. Mackenzie spends her time away from the shop figure skating & coaching with the Oak Bay Figure skating club in "Victoria" BC. She has been skating for over 20 years now and skating has truly become a grounding activity on stressful days.
Together Mackenzie and Ira bring out the best in this small business and each other. They are excited for the growth this company has experienced over that last 2 years and are looking forward to collaborating more with the community in 2023!

The definition of “collective” as a noun is: a cooperative enterprise. But we get a lot of questions asking why we call ourselves a collective. For us, the use of the word collective has been a big part of our brand. We wanted to start to redefine what the word “collective” looks like. Upcycle is a collective space that features used clothing, artists and quality goods that are all working towards social or environmental sustainability. Each consignor, artisan or designer contributes collectively to the space and shares in its profits.
A consignment shop is truly a collective effort from the community. Without others bringing in items to consign the idea of a consignment shop would not exist.
Your average consignment store at its core consists of people bringing items in to sell them collectively under a shop's name giving each individual a percentage of the sale for the items. Upcycle is doing just that and more. We work with artists and individuals for the same common goal; sustainability. Collectively our consignors and vendors sell their items with us whilst working towards a more sustainable future in fashion and everyday goods.
We would propose to you to look at the definition of the word “collective” as open ended. Let’s celebrate people coming together to actively play a part for a more sustainable future.
Selling your used clothing through a local consignment shop helps the environment, the community and small business owners. Whether you sell a lot or a little; anything helps reduce the amount of clothing in landfills. You may be surprised at how smooth and easy this process is!
Let’s work towards a more sustainable future through consignment; together!
